HistoryThe Calgary Motorcycle Club (C.M.C.) was founded in 1926 to promote motorcycle riding. In particular: Touring, Cross Country, Motorcross, and Ice Racing. The opportunity to meet other people who share your interest and love of motorcycles. The Calgary Motorcycle Club promotes safe, responsible riding. Club History As Remembered By Dean (Vol.1) Many C.M.C. members are active in competitive motorcycle racing. When they are not racing, they are organizing them. Since the 1970s, the C.M.C. has been attracting high caliber athletes from across Canada through the organization of regional and national events in Cross Country, Hare Scrambles, and Ice Racing. Experience the Adrenalin rush of studded tires and speeds up to 120 kph on a quarter mile oval of ice. Riders from all disciplines converge on the ice. Road racers, cross countriers, hare scramblers, flat trackers, motocrossers, and ice racers all come together to compete in motorcycle racing's most unique sport. Tight racing, high speeds, and short sprint races make this winter motorsport exciting for racers and fans alike. What is the equivalent of the Indianapolis 500 in Cross-Country? Many say it is the C.M.C. sponsored Moose Mountain National Cross Country traditionally held every July long weekend. The "Moose" is so popular that many competitors make the race, even if it is the only race they compete in all year. The "Moose" and the C.M.C. sponsored Quirk Creek Cross Country are a staple on the cross country circuit. Why? Cross Country is the true test of racer and machine. It is racer and machine against other competitors, the weather, and of course the terrain. In cross country, riders follow a pre-set course not previously seen. The course can lead you through remote mountainous terrain, cut-lines, tight trails in the trees, muskeg, mud, and sometimes camp. Basically, anything an organizer can dream of putting a motorcycle through. Don't worry, courses are set to rider experience. Hare Scrambles have recently become popular. Similar to Cross Country, just on a smaller scale. The course is shorter. Terrain is similar. The difference? Do a parade lap then complete as many laps as possible in a specified time period, usually two hours. TOURINGThe touring division of the C.M.C. is for motorcycle enthusiasts who prefer to take their recreation to the city streets and open highways. Whether it be short, scenic day trips, poker runs, or overnight camping trips, enjoy the camaraderie of touring with C.M.C. members in some of Alberta's most spectacular areas. The C.M.C. does not cater to any specific type of motorcycle. The only prerequisites to riding with the touring division are a valid class 6 driver's license, a safe motorcycle, and safe riding habits. Oh yes, and a C.M.C. membership. Every year the "Tour Captain" reveals his/her tour schedule for the season. Kicking off the season in early April the "Tour Captain" organizes tours and events that will keep you touring through to early October. Several rides have become so infamous that they are repeated every year. Some of which are the "brass Monkey run", the "Creston Campout", and the "Midnight Poker Run". Why are these rides so infamous and popular? Only one way to find out. Join the C.M.C., come ready for good times, good people, and a tour-filled summer. |
